Chico Amico
|
Meet Joseph W. "Chico" Amico, d/o/b 1-15-42. He was a member of
the East Boston crew of
Joe Barboza, the mafia hitman. When
Barboza broke with LCN, the Mafia began exterminating his gang. On
December 8, 1966, Chico left Alphonse's Broken Hearts Club in Eastie
with another member of the gang. As they drove away, gunmen in another
car opened fire, wounding the driver and killing Chico instantly.

This is Chico Amico in 1966, shortly
before his murder. Different hair, different responsibilities – at this
point, he’s working for Mob hitman Joe Barboza. By this time, Barboza
was in jail, and was about to become the first member of the
government’s Witness Protection Program. Two of the enforcers on his
little crew had already been killed by the Mafia, and Amico and another
Barboza guy named Kearns were moving around the city, trying to raise
money.
In this excerpt from Barboza’s autobiography, he describes the final
days of his pal’s life. (Frank "Salanni" is Salemme, and the "Marterannos"
are the Martoranos).
